Evangeline Brown and Kayla Crider from Dune Lakes Middle School, sponsoring director Corrie Sober; and Lucy George and Kinsley Craig from West DeFuniak Elementary, sponsoring director Nathan Hight, will all be performing in the FEMEA All-State Chorus!

Thank you to everyone that donated in the Walton High School FBLA's canned food drive! Over 850 cans were collected - twice the amount collected last year!

Congratulations to Ms. Nelson’s 5th period class for collecting the most cans (217) and to Ms. Huff’s 5th period class for earning second place (with 199 cans).

We would also like to thank the FBLA members, baseball players, and AVID students that helped with the drive & delivering the cans to The Matrix. Coach Harless & Mrs. Harless are so proud of these students and their hard work in this project that will help people in our community.

West DeFuniak Elementary faculty and staff gathered to show support for Mrs. Kathy Friend who has been recently diagnosed with cancer. With numerous donations, combined with a t-shirt fundraiser, the WDE Faculty and Staff were able to present Mrs. Friend with $2,484.00 to help with her medical expenses. Together, the WDE family is strong!

Mrs. Vanessa Black, sixth grade math teacher at WMS, strives to make learning relevant and engaging for her students.  Recently, when calculating rates using speed, distance, and time (using the d=rt formula), Mrs. Black moved her classroom outside.  Students, who often get tired of sitting still, ran a fifty yard dash.  After receiving their times, they calculated their rates, dividing to discover how many yards they covered per second.  After calculating their own rates, students did the same for two of their classmates.  Students enjoyed this fun and active approach to learning math--even if they got a little hot and sweaty in the process.

On November 22nd, two class winners from each sixth grade ELA class at WMS competed in the schoolwide 4H Tropicana Public Speaking Contest.  Each student pushed his or her jitters aside and bravely took the stage, delivering the speeches they'd planned, written, and practiced.  Students were judged for both the composition and presentation of their chosen material.  The following students walked away from the competition victorious, making their teachers, peers, and families proud:  (L to R)  Chandler Shoaf--3rd place; Dosier Gossman--1st place; Maddie Baur--2nd place.

On Wednesday December 18th the FHS football, volleyball and softball student athletes visited some very deserving FES students to spread some Christmas cheer and deliver some presents from SANTA himself!  We have all heard of the naughty and nice list, but these students were on a very elite list…..THE SUPER NICE LIST, and they were rewarded for their behavior! The FHS teams were able to deliver presents to 70 students and there was plenty of Christmas cheer to fill the entire school!

Students in the West DeFuniak Elementary Kiwanis Kids Club went shopping for ten children from the Families First Network Angel Tree.

The money that they raised from their Thanksgiving Bake Sale was used to help bring a little Christmas Cheer to those in our community affected by economic hardship, deployment, or unfortunate events. These anonymous families can now share in the joy of the season!
