A Full-Service School District

December 10, 2021

No way to a price on the immeasurable hands in our community that help the Walton County School district be what it needs to be for Children; we sometimes refer to this type of wholistic compassionate care and passion as “A Full-Service School District”!  As the Superintendent stopped by WHS this morning, Food for Thought was making deliveries as they have done for years and thousands of children in Walton County and the surrounding areas.  Mr. and Mrs. Walcutt along with Emerson made sure every child was going to have a healthy, fulfilling weekend!  Thanks, Food for Thought for loving, serving, and feeding our children.  Shout out to the ELA Department for stopping and sharing with Superintendent Hughes the great things that are happening in ELA and the Reading Department at WHS!

ECMS 2D artists used their talents to show appreciation to their school community by drawing portraits of every ECMS and some Walton County district staff members. Students were inspired by contemporary painter, Chuck Close, and his photorealism style. This unique approach combines grid-like pattern and color to create abstract portraits. Staff names were chosen at random and students used a photo for reference. It was a challenging task but especially daunting to draw a portrait of someone they see so often. This project was a process, but students remained positive and persevered. In the spirt of giving and thanks this holiday season, we hope you enjoy this Gallery of Gratitude presented by 7th and 8th Art grade students. Congratulations to our ECMS aspiring artists on their creativity and determination!

The “Whole Child” is our concern and during this Holiday Season our collaboration with the Walton Education Foundation, it’s team, partnership and Leadership of Lindsey Harp is what makes WCSD the greatest place in the world to live and be educated!  They dropped both educational and Super Kid Centered gifts for students at Dune Lakes Elementary School who are new to our Country and County!  When you hear that we are in “The Kid Business” we truly mean it, no matter their address, nationality, ethnicity, economic status or present state; We Are Here For Them!  EPIC 4wRd and a Huge shout out to our Education Foundation and many other partners that help us make this life worth living for our children!

Third grade students at West DeFuniak Elementary strengthened their literacy skills as they took a “trip” around the world learning about holidays in different cultures. Classrooms were transformed into different countries around the world with themed music, crafts, and reading activities to complete with parents. Students had to bring in their ticket to “board” the flight and received a passport to be stamped as they traveled to the different countries. Each 20-minute rotation focused on a different third grade reading skill. Also, first grade students and parents were invited to learn more about reading in first grade. The first grade teachers showed parents different resources, strategies, and learning games to help their child at home. These parent training nights are valuable as they help show parents how they can support their child at home. We are so thankful for the opportunity to offer these parent engagement activities.

WISE center agriculture program has begun their life cycle learning, utilizing chickens as their subject group. Pre-K students are given the opportunity to see the chickens and ask questions. We strive to blend all programs at the WISE center so that all students can benefit.

Learning is no exception for WCSD Leadership to include the Superintendent and School board Members.  Superintendent Hughes, WCSB members Mrs. Kim Kirby and Mrs. Jeri Michie attended the Joint FSBA & FADSS leadership conference this past week where continued education, development, Governance, Legislative Laws and Rules were a few topics of discussion and training.  These board members worked all week with other boards, state leaders and educators to make sure we are doing what is needed to be done for our students as well as helping to assist other boards as they shared ideas of Success!  The entire WCSB was also recognized as one of the few Master Board Trained Teams in the state!  We are proud of our Board and their continued effort to stay in lock step with Best practices for students, teachers, staff and Community!  Thanks for your commitment to this Great Work WCSB!  EPIC 4wRd!!!

FMS Books of Art!

November 30, 2021

The Freeport Middle School Art Department took out of circulation books and gave them an artist's love, turning them into works of art.  After chunking the pages with glue, students covered their books, painted beautiful paintings in the pages, attached beads, ribbon, scrapbook paper, and made them their own masterpieces.  That is one way to create recycled art!  Way to go Bulldogs!!
