Superintendent A. Russell Hughes visited the Wise Pre-K Center and read to the students in Mrs. McBroom’s class. The children were delighted with his reading of “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!”, a favorite by best loved author, cartoonist, animator and artist, Theodor Seuss Geisel, best known to the world as “Dr. Seuss.” Dr. Seuss’ birthday is March 2nd, and is recognized across the county in schools, libraries, and community centers by bringing children, teens, adults and books together to celebrate literacy. WCSD Spring Break is Next Week

All Walton County School District Students and Staff will be out for Spring Break the week of March 13-17, 2017. Students will have an early release day Thursday, March 9, 2017, and students will be out of school on Friday, March 10, 2017, due to a Teacher work day. ECMS Participates in an Escape to Create
March 3, 2017
Emerald Coast Middle School students received a visit from Canadian-born composer Matthew Whittall. Matthew works with Create To Escape, a distinguished multi-disciplinary artist residency hosted by the community of Seaside since 1993. Matthew writes in a wide variety of media including solo orchestral, choral and chamber. Matthew worked with 7th grade language arts students allowing them to listen to and enjoy an original piece of music he wrote. Students then created unique poems in reflection of the musical presentation. Submitted by Angela Vance/FB.
FHS Student, Case Woodard is the highest scoring basketball player in the county for the 2016-17 school year. During season play he scored 455 points with an average of 17.5 points per game. FES Kindergarteners Become Doctors to Fix Sick Words

Literacy Week Inspires WDE 5th Graders

ECMS Represents WCSD Finishing 1st at Invitational

Congratulations to both the boys’ and girls’ ECMS track teams for finishing 1st at the Jesse Forbes Invitational track meet in Tallahassee last week. Twenty-four athletes qualified for the Middle School State meet in Bradenton, Florida in May. Way to go Stingrays! Submitted by Angela Vance.
WDE Students Learn How to Choose a Great Chapter Book

The Media Specialist at WDE, Mrs. Goodman, spoke to several third grade classes about choosing a great chapter book. Authors, genres, reading levels, and topics that were interesting to the students were discussed. Third grade teachers are working with students to build their reading stamina! 2nd graders at West DeFuniak Elementary participated in planting potatoes in a grade level garden on Wednesday, March 1st. The students were able to individually plant their own potatoes. Students learned that potatoes are usually planted first in a spring garden and what the criteria is for planting potatoes. The students had a blast working in the garden and getting a little dirty!
