The Walton County School District is proud to announce that 5 of our schools have been selected by the Florida Department of Education as "Schools of Excellence."

Schools are designated as Schools of Excellence if the school’s percentage of possible points earned in its school grade calculation is in the 80th percentile or higher for schools comprised of the same grade groupings (elementary, middle, high, and combination) for at least two of the last three school years if the school meets the qualifying criteria.

Congratulations to Van R. Butler Elementary, Emerald Coast Middle School, Seaside Neighborhood School, South Walton High School, and Freeport High School for receiving this high honor!

ECMS Supports Unity Day 2017

October 30, 2017

Students at ECMS gathered together wearing Orange in support of the Pacer.org and EmeraldCoastKids.org's campaigns against bullying, and in support of kindness, acceptance, inclusion and unity!

Maude Saunders 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade ELA teachers participated in the “Good to Great Teaching Institute” this week.  This EPIC professional learning activity with The New Teacher Project provided teachers with the opportunity to unpack standards and text and analyze student work.  Submitted by Krisy Spence.

Mrs. Mosley’s class used the story of “Spookley the Square Pumpkin” to learn about standing up to bullies and sticking up for those being bullied. They had a great time making their own Spookley’s out of paper plates.  Submitted by Krisy Spence.

Second grade students at WDE embarked on an adventure of a lifetime aboard the Buccaneer Pirate Cruise located at HarborWalk Village in Destin. The tour interactively entertained students with sword fights, water gun battles, storytelling, singing, dancing, and treasure hunts. Submitted by Jessica Dawkins.

The 5th graders at WDE showed their enthusiasm for the last Vocabulary Word Parade in which they will participate. Blaze D. said, “This is the best parade we’ve had, and it’s sad I won’t be in it next year.” Each student dressed to impress with his or her chosen, on grade level vocabulary word. Signs were created to show the word and definition. The students had a great time at their final parade.
