Second grade students in Mrs. Jessica Dawkins’ class at WDE participated in a month long “Candy Corn Contest”. Students were encouraged to read and take AR tests throughout the month of October. Each time a student made an 80% or higher on an AR test, their name was added to the candy corn drawing for a chance to win. Mr. Rodney Free, assistant principal, drew the names of our lucky winners. Walton High School chorus welcomed visitors from Baptist College of Florida yesterday as they participated in an exchange concert/workshop at WHS! Dr. Buford Cox, Professor of Music, and Dr. Angela Glover, Professor of Piano, brought the BCF College Choir to sing and collaborate with the WHS Chorus, under the direction of Lona Robinson. The college students shared information about their academic journey, and talked about college life at BCU. It was a wonderful opportunity for the WHS singers to hear an advanced group, and experience some new repertoire!

This past Friday, PHS hosted their annual Trick or Trunk on campus. The event was open to students and other members of the community. Trick or Trunk gives parents a chance to bring their children to a safe place to go trick-or-treating. The PHS middle and high school grades, clubs, and sports team members welcomed trick-or-treaters dressed in their themed costumed and passed out tons of candy. NASA recently allowed Paxton School's eighth grade science students to program a space camera onboard the International Space Station to take pictures of landforms on Earth as part of the EarthKam program. They were able to snap this photograph of the San Martin Lake, nestled in the snowy Andes in the southern region of Argentina. The San Martin is the deepest lake in the Americas at a depth of 836 meters. The unique finger shape of the lake is formed by a series of flooded valleys. Congratulations to the students for carefully examining the Space Station groundtracks and programming the camera to take this photograph as the Space Station flew by.

Mrs. Donna Timmons’ kindergarten class at WDE recently experienced apple tasting! Students learned that apples have different tastes, compared the different tastes, and decided which flavor of apple they liked best. Students recorded their experience in a scientific manner by creating a graph of their favorite apples. The class also enjoyed making and tasting fresh applesauce. Submitted by Jessica Dawkins
The 8th grade Advanced World Geography students created posters representing the 8 Traits of Culture. Students had to focus on their specific trait and show knowledge of how that trait was expressed globally. Submitted by Kalli McMillan
